EVERYTHING WE SEE
IS MEANT TO BE SEEN
'Everything we see is meant to be seen' is an essay that explores the evolutionary reasons behind the way humans perceive Artificial Intelligence (AI) images. Specifically, it delves into the AI image constructed through the Big GAN method, where computers learn how photos are "supposed" to look by the use of a generator and discriminator. Through the use of three images, the essay explains how our unconscious search for recognition in images stems from our evolutionary history, and how this evolutionary system fools us when we look at AI generated images.
The essay has been published in 'Lost in the drive', a with fellow designers designed book. The book was created in collaboration with Fedrigoni and Rob Stolk. Dylan Eno contributed to the design of the book with his curatorial and graphic design skills.
Readers can navigate through the book in two ways, either through cross-referencing or page numbering. The essay was the kick starter for the 'Delusional landscapes' print series.
